We promote and support healthy, strong families through a variety of programs. Our goal is to provide the services needed for all family members – children, youth and adults – to thrive in our community.
Focus areas for Health and Wellness Programs and Services at Jean Marie River include:
- Addiction awareness and counseling/treatment when needed
- We acknowledge and honour people who choose sobriety
- We encourage adults to act as positive role models for children and youth
- Supporting recovery and healing through a variety of initiatives
- We encourage healing through awareness (i.e. awareness of residential school issues), in part by organizing community healing workshops and life skills workshops, and by providing access to traditional healers through DHSSA
- Supporting parents and families through awareness programs, parenting workshops and providing immediate support for families in crisis
- We organize family gatherings and provide a space for youth and seniors’ programming activities
- Encouraging physical health, wellness and food security
- We promote nutritional awareness and encourage the use of traditional foods whenever possible
- We provide basic medical services
- We support community gardens with assistance from the Territorial Farmers’ Association
